LIME Participates in 2nd Vanderbilt Cup Centennial Races

Al Diamanti, having volunteered to help the planning committee of the VCR'05, gathered LIME Motorsports Minis to participate in this year's Vanderbilt Cup Races held at the Nassau Sports Complex in Uniondale, New York.  The celebration was launched with a book signing on Friday, Sept. 16, by Ms. Janet Guthrie, a Long Island native and local amateur race car driver in the 60s who turned pro and went on to be the first woman to race & finish both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500.   A special showing of the film NASCAR at the Cradle of Aviation's I Max theater was held after the short talk and discussion led by Ms. Guthrie.  On Saturday, Sept. 17th, the Autocross got a late start,  with a short and challenging course that saw the participation of many vintage performance cars, including a Ferrari Dino, a Lotus 11, a Griffith V8, an Austin Healy, and of course, the venerable Mini. El Presidente took 3rd place. Sunday, Sept. 18, the Time Trial finally started around noon after yet another exhausting and frustrating morning of trying to get the event off amidst pressures from the county politicians and the police.  In spite of the challenges, LIME put on an impressive appearance with the participation of Frank Kraweckie, Rick Little, Bob Rath, Ray Maramara, and Al Diamanti.   Several LIME members also showed up to lend support, including Vinny and Judy Rosalez. David and Susan Blackwell also volunteered to help organize the car show and Flag the Time Trials & Autocross.
