MG Car Club annual Fall Foliage Tour

On Sunday, October 31, 2005, about 26 LIME Club members and guests participated in the MG Car Club Long Island Chapter's annual Fall Foliage Tour.

The early gathering at the Cold Spring Harbor, New York train station gave everyone time to admire the sights and sounds of many excellent (mostly British) vehicles and to exchange praise and technical advice. Quite a few names and email addresses were also traded.

Some LIME members were driving other makes such as MG, Austin Healey Sprite and Mercedes something. A number of Minis are undergoing restorations at this time, but Minis did have a considerable presence.

As the Tour got underway, the lead vehicle, a bright red 1962 Mini, set a lively pace while doing its best to clear the falling leaves from the corners.

Ten Minis, five classics and five NEW ones, proving their common heritage gear by gear and corner by corner, remained together as if fastened bumper to bumper.

The route through Long Island's historic North Shore was a sports car enthusiast's dream of turns, hills and views. The only difficulty was encountered when Nick Persaud's magnificent metallic-maroon Mini 30 partly melted a battery cable with its exhaust header. That short-circuited his electrics. It was at Locust Valley - Oyster Bay Road where all the Minis then halted for about 15 minutes to help.   A temporary repair was made and the company of Minis plotted a more direct route to the finish. This allowed everyone time to get to Northport for a late lunch at the Surf N Turf Pub.

The weather was perfect during the entire event. The colors of the trees and the meadows were a tonic for the soul. A good time was had by all and many of us are planning to return again next year.
